I joined Making The Leap in September 2022 as the Alumni Coordinator. I previously completed the Teach First programme and was a Secondary English teacher in Coventry, my hometown. I absolutely loved working with young people and celebrating progress they make; however, I noticed working in a lower socio-economic area meant many of the students had alarmingly low aspirations, confidence levels and sometimes access to opportunities. I was drawn to MTL for their brilliant work around addressing these issues and the wide variety of projects they have set up to raise awareness of and increase social mobility.

My role involves the ‘aftercare’ for young people after they complete one of our programmes and become ‘Fellows’. At MTL we aren’t just about delivering a 3-week programme – we want Fellows to feel like they have a family cheering them on and supporting them throughout their whole career. Alumni opportunities include attending exciting socials, networking events, fundraising and volunteering opportunities, access to masterclasses and more!
