I am beyond grateful to have had the privilege of not only graduating but also accessing a fantastic career opportunity in 2020. It was not an easy feat, and this past year gives a perfect depiction of the struggle and difficulty that many young people like me have faced after graduating and embarking on their job search. The Job Market was just completely over-saturated; even more so than usual and I found myself expanding my job search to include alternative sites to the ‘big four’ job boards: LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and Reed. I spent a lot of time searching and going from website to website until I stumbled across a vacancy for Making The Leap (MTL). I applied and frantically awaited a response. And soon enough, I received a message regarding my application. Unfortunately, I was told that the vacancy was no longer available, but I could be offered some support in my career aspirations and that’s how I started my MTL journey.

The Making The Leap workshop was so life-changing for me. It gave me a new way of thinking and a new way of approaching situations in the workplace. I had always felt underqualified and unable to get the job I truly wanted, but MTL helped me push through all these insecurities. The various challenges I overcame were the confidence boost I needed; with this, I was able to identify the unique skills I can bring to the workplace. I also gained the skills needed to excel in my job applications and ace my way through an interview.

I considered many different career professions, but ultimately, I ended up in tax which has always been near and dear to my heart from studying it at university. After completing several job applications, I FINALLY secured a role with a great accounting firm. Had someone told me this time last year that I would be in the position I am today; I definitely would have said ‘are you sure?!’. I was completely over the moon; it was honestly the assistance and support of MTL that created such an impact in my life and helped me get to this role.

MTL has instilled in me the art of going the extra mile and making sure that everything is done to the best of my ability. I work hard now to leave a great lasting impression with every professional I speak to. To anyone that is looking to boost their confidence, gain skills, and expand their job search – the best thing you can do for your career, is ‘Make The Leap’! I encourage you to give it your all and get involved because what you gain from MTL is priceless. If you want that dream job that you are keen on, MTL will provide the services you need to get it!
